YouthTown is here!

The school bell rang at 8:50 and I could see everyone in mufti... apart from a few people. We looked at our whiteboard and figured out what group we were in, there were 4 groups, group A, B, C and D, I was in group C. All 4 groups started by playing octopus as if we were all in 1 group. We had 2 games of octopus and the first game about 6 taggers and the second game had about 8 taggers! After that, we had 4 activities, all the groups rotated. For lunch we had 2 free sausages and 1 free drink. After lunch, we continued with our other 2 activities. We all had so much fun and everything was free. I really enjoyed it!

You have told us what happened - but there isn't a lot of detail.  Try to add more so we can actually 'see' you there.  What did you like the most?  Mrs Simpson

D.A. (The) Burning Mud Pie!

D.A. Burning Mud Pie!

This procedure is easy to make and is only made for display. Please never try to create this!

Ingredients/Materials
-3 Fish eyeballs
-1 110cm eel
-1 Medium-sized slug
-2 Handball sized furballs
-200 Grams of snow
-2 Jellyfish
-1 Drop of lava
-150 Grams of worm guts
-500 Millilitres of expired milk
-750 Grams of mud

First, start by making the shape of a circular pie with the 750 grams of mud. Let it dry in the hot sun for 30 minutes. While it's drying, pour all the expired milk into a big bowl, then drop 100 millilitres of pen ink in with the milk. Mix very well. Drop the lava and snow into the mix, let it spread. Let the mix cool off for 10 minutes. Once it's cooled, put both jellyfish in the bowl. Grab all the eyeballs and squish them one by one above the bowl so that all the insides fall into the bowl. Take all the worm guts and sprinkle it into the bowl. Pour all the other 100 millilitres of pen ink into the mix. Place the furballs next to each other on top of the mix. Then lay the slug on top of the furballs. Twist and turn the eel so that it circles the slug. Finally Pour everything into the dry, solid mud!

Your masterpiece is complete! Don't enjoy!

Wow!  That sounds disgusting...  Your procedure is in order with great verbs telling us what to do.  Well done.  Mrs Simpson

Sailing at Bucklands Beach

On Monday week seven room 4 went sailing at Bucklands beach. We had a fantastic time and I loved it, I was splashing lots of people because they splashed me. The adults taught us about the boom and about not letting it hit you, after telling us about the boom they told us how to steer the sailing boat. They said it steered opposite to the way you turned it.

Adults telling us about the boats.

Then we all put a life jacket on and the adults  checked if they were tight enough.

Great start Jade - you are giving the reader information about the boats - well done.
Don't forget capitals...Mrs Simpson

The Fun Day At Sailing

On Monday weak 7 Room 4 went to Bucklands Beach to learn how to sail we had races water fight but i was cut my my friend  Jade using somethings on the boat so he send me to the one of the boat who was looking after us. when I got on the big boat. we started to splash water to other people which  was petty fun but i was throwed out of the boat and went I swimed back on the boat and i started doing it again and then i jumped of the boat. a few minutes past we went on a boat to ride on and some people saw a shark but no one died thats a good thing that no one died because we will be sad and then mother will be too.By the way there was  to boat one saw the shark and the other one did not.

Jing Long - you have great ideas here.   I like your information about the shark and how you would feel if someone was caught by it.
You now need to reread your work and figure out where the punctuation needs to go.  When you pause while reading- put in either a full stop or a comma.  Mrs Simpson

Sailing at Bucklands Beach

On Monday Room 4 went sailing. We went on the bus all of us just imagened how facinating or even great it would be on the bus everyone was looking out the windows and seeing all of the amazing veiws there were most of us who would of been just daydreaming out the window and finally we were at bucklands beach for sailing.Everyone quickly took of their shoes and gathered their gear and realised the we auctaully needed our shoes so we all had to rush to get our shoes back on not long after that we had to choose our partners and get our life jackets on then we finally started sailing a few hours or minuets later we had races. The races were a bit annoying because people kept bumping into each other and nearly knocked us off. then we had free time i think the free time was the best because we ridded on the speedboat as the speedboat got faster faster faster and faster it was like we were all gonna tip out of the boat but in the end we did we had to jump out of the boat and i think i swallowed a bit of salt water in my mouth it tasted like fish i was so gross after that we all had to hop out because it was time to go it was a really great experience i wish we could go there again next year!

Wow - you have a lot of information here Taylah.  Great.  However, you need to reread it to make sure you use the correct punctuation.  Try adding some of those similes and adjectives that I know you can do too!

Room 4 sailing and bucklands beach

On Monday at week 7 room 4 went sailing at Bucklands beach .To learn how to sail. They first showed  us like wut to do. After they were done showing us.We headed off into the ocean and sailed There. I was in Anthonys' boat i got to steer the boat"YAY" i shouted. Anthony got to do the sail it wasn't fun its was soooo boring doing the sail. Also we saw some people standing up and steering so i decided to do it and lots of boats tipped over well? oh?! It didn't tip one of the leaders tipped some people  boat over so they had lifted it back up no wait WE had to lift it up -.- but i hoped one of the HUGE boats  AND OH NO me and some people SAW A SHARK good thing it wasn't near us or something bad could happen. After that we had a race it was soooo boring so i didn't do the race.when the race was finished we headed back to the sea it was a Extremely fun day.

teaching us

heading off
In the ocean .

I like your ideas about the boat and standing up, tipping out and what was fun or boring!
You need to have a good look at your use of full stops - only at the end of a sentence.  Don't forget spaces too.

ROOM 4'S AMAZING TIME WITH YOUTHTOWN

On Tuesday the 8th of December the Youthtown people came to HPS and we had to talk about whos in whos team A, B or C so we know where to go afterwards. When we finshed talking we played some games to get all of us warmed up.

We played Octopus, Mastertag and two more other games which we don't know what they're called. After that the morning tea bell rang and we had to go back and get our morning tea and Miss Dower said we only have 10 minutes. Once Morning Tea was done the handbell rang and WE WERE THE FIRST GROUP GOING SNORKLING!!! YAY.

After we did all the activities we sang a thank you sasa. I wonder if they will come next year!?!

Well Done Karen. The story was very interesting. The only thing you need to do is EDIT a bit more.
-Danika ;)

Fun With Youthtown

This year instead of the seniors going to Rainbows End at the end of the year, we had the awesome  Youthtown come in to play and have fun with us with some amazing and fun games and activities! My favourite activity was the blowkart because it was really fun building its tall (as a surprisingly tall stick) sail with all the poles. Youthtown was totally epic! So I hope they will come to HPS next year!
it's good but it would be even more amazing if you have lots of similes and adjectives Jennifer.

Having fun at cricket skills!

For 5 weeks Room 4 has been learning some amazing new cricket skills. We learnt how to play drop zone, cricket tower, diamond ball and stuck in the mud (cricket stile). Ethan the incredible intructor helped us to learn more about cricket. In this picture we are playing DROP ZONE!!! It is a really fun game to play. There is one ball but you can put two in if you want. You have two teams and one team has one half of the hall and the remaining team has the half that's left over. But you need to save some space in the middle of the hall that space is the dead zone if you go in there our if the ball lands in it your team loses a player. You can make up your own rules like you have to catch the ball with your bad hand, you Can have a team life, it has to be over a certain height. We had an awesome time doing cricket skills and we thank Ethan so much for helping us!

Chef's Special Pizza!!! A procedure...

This is how Room 4 made our special pizza:

'Mush, mush, eeooww!!!'
Room 4 started to create a delicious masterpiece for the whole family (or was it?).

First we had to collect the ingredients.
Collecting flowers...

Bringing in the water...

Making the mud...

Collecting the bark...

Handfuls of leaves...

Stinky food scraps...

One bowl had mud in it.  Jaxon poured the sand into this bowl and Gus then mixed the gooey, squishy mud with the gritty sand and it looked phenomenal!

After that the grass was added.

Next Jayden and Nate shredded the paper into the bowl and Karen combined it together.  The mixture was drying quite quickly so Karen found it hard to mix together.

Then we mixed the mud mixture with the broken up red leaves.  Jaxon said the mix was getting quite hard!

Leigh then mixed the remaining base ingredients together with his hands.  The water made it feel squishy and nice!  Leigh's hands were very dirty!

After that we tipped it out onto a sandy tray and Chloe kneaded it for 3 minutes.  She got all mucky!

Finally Chloe flattened it out into a pizza-shaped base.  Then we left it to dry in the blazing hot sun.
Once it was dry, the toppings were added.

First we added the nasty, smelly food scraps.  They were placed around the edge.

Then the sticks were placed vertically around the edges.

Sue then randomly placed the bark in the middle.

Bill, Alif, Anthony and others then picked the petals off the flowers and sprinkled them over the pizza.

Next the paper was shredded and put over the bark.

Finally Anthony and Gus put the grass over the pizza in a spiral pattern.
Then it was placed in the sun to dry.

Once it was finished, it looked like a pizza made straight from a garbage truck.  It was definitely the chef's special pizza!  Yum!

We had a lot of fun making it - don't try this at home!

Our Amazing and Adventurous trip to Bucklands Beach

The day had come...

We were off sailing on some yachts.  We enthusiastically learnt how to steer, how to catch the wind and how to turn.  During the morning we had 4 races, Nisha won the first race, Karen won the second, Jade won the third and Jeremy won the last one (but he cheated)!!!

Once we finished the races, everybody went into total chaos!  People were jumping in the water, they were splashing each other on the boats and they were capsizing.

We really enjoyed our time at the beach!

Cricket!

When I first found out room 4 was playing cricket on Monday in the hall I was so happy! I am really good because I have had a lot of experience at school. FIrst we went in the hall and we met Ian. Then we practised over and under arm. After we did that we played diamond cricket which is like t-ball and that's what they call it in England. When it was my turn to hit the ball I made a home run! It was so fun!

Cricket in the hall!

Ian, who I like to call the professional cricket player, taught most of us how to play cricket! First we learnt how to catch the ball, sounds easy right? No, it was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life! Just kidding! Then we played actual cricket, the opposing team started to bat, then we batted, and so on and so forth. In the end, the opposite tem won by a hair. Most people found out that in the end, it doesn't even matter, it's all about fun.

My Spectacular Zoo Experience

O M G!!!

We are actually here at Auckland Zoo!!

Our amazing zoo experience started at school in class.

We were pumped to travel to Auckland Zoo.

But before we could even look at any of the animals we had a quick talk with the zoo keeper and staff and went over the rules.

After we had a few hours or so to go and explore the zoo! It was very interesting!

Next we had a mouth watering lunch with everyone so that we had loads of energy. Just when you thought it was over we had a long yet interesting talk about... BIRDS!!

But that is not all... once we left out this door, we were lead to a tank but not just any tank a gigantic tank filled with...   Creepy Eels!! Their large eyes were burning at you and we learnt a few facts. To be honest with you I was too interested in the eels that I wasn't really listening!! Anyway lets move on...

After learning heaps about eels we learnt about ... Geese!! Believe it or not, the zoo keepers set up fake geese on an island to attract more geese. How cool is that?

Sadly, our zoo experience came to an end!I found the zoo an amazing opportunity to learn about animals. Such as Eels, Otters, Giraffes, Zebras and many more more!!

By:Danika S

Teacher:  I love your use of interesting language to grab the readers attention.
Don't use too many exclamation marks though  - not every sentence needs one...

The awesome zoo

On Monday I had a awesome day at the zoo it was so much fun we got to see all kinds  of animals
My group got to see a graffie run and it was only a little baby when it got close to the fence it skided a little bit it nearly hit the fence.we walked around more and we saw zebras they were eating food under the deck. Some people got to sit on the fake elephant and Mrs simpson took a photo of us
We had a really fun day at the zoo everyone loved it but I really really loved it.

Peer Assessment: Great recount! I like your writing but you might need to work on some punctuation. It would have been even better if you had use some similes and good adjectives too.

Our Fantastic Trip to the Zoo! By Anthony

On Monday of week two, nearly the whole senior school went to the zoo! Everyone was excited to see lots of the animals that was there. When we got there, we were allowed to look around the Australian and other parts of the zoo before we got told about most of the animals that we were going past. So my group (Daniel, Jade Jing Long my mum and I) first saw the giraffes and zebras. I thought that they looked really cool because I had never seen any zoo animals because I've never been to the zoo and I noticed that they all had really cool patterns. Then after we had taken some photos, we saw the frightening lions! There was three but only one of them was visible to basically everyone. There was a second one behind the hill but I think that there was a third one inside. After that, we saw the amazing hippopotamuses! They were being lazy by lying in the burning sand doing nothing. Next to the hippopotamuses were the fighting seagulls! They were flying around probably to scare each other. Then we were able to see the red pandas! It was soooo cute!! Daniel managed to get a picture of it hanging upside down! We were waiting for my mum to finish taking photos because it was taking up quite a bit of our time. Once she finished, we saw the lemurs because they were right next to each other. My mum took some more photos. Then we had to look for Central Garden. Turns out that it's right next to the red pandas. Then we got "toured" around the New Zealand part of the zoo. I found  the zoo trip very interesting and very cool because it was my first time to the zoo!

Pretty much perfect, good  use of punctuation and words I think you could have made it more exciting by use better words, because the reader could have fallen asleep quite fast! I  rate it 99.999999999999% (:

Teacher:  When you peer assess, don't forget to put your name!
I like the adjectives you have added Anthony.  Could you add some more?

The amazing zoo!

"The wheels on the bus go round and round, round and round, round and round, the wheels on the bus go round and round, all day long!" Finally we arrived at the zoo! First my group (Me, Jinglong, Jade, Anthony and Anthony's mum) and I went to the tall-necked giraffes, there were a few zebras next to the giraffes in the same area! Next we went to the lions, they said "ROAR!!!" really quietly! After a few more boring animals, we saw the cute, little red pandas, They were so CUTE!!! They had red tails with black stripes on it. Next we met at the central lawn for morning tea, I saw a few of my friends that were not in my group! 5 minutes after our morning tea we saw some ring-tailed lemurs that were staring in
our souls... just kidding! After lunch we saw the zoo specialists play with the tigers, another "ROAR!" Oh my! A lemur tunnel, maybe we should go down it! Ahhhh! a lemur jumped onto the glass on top of my face! We saw what seemed to be a "fake" crocodile! Wow! What a trip!!

Teacher comment: Great recount of what happened at the zoo! Maybe you could think of a couple of sentences to end/round up your paragraph.

Up up... and possibly down!

"Alright, grab your objects that you ordered from this box!" Commanded Mrs Simpson. Anthony Rawlinson, Mitchell and Namar decided to join me as I played with my pitch black frisbee. The game was a little bit like soccer because there were goals, defenders, and throwers. "The rules are: You cannot throw too high, you take turns throwing and you try to get the frisbee that you threw past the opponent's goal without letting it touch the ground" I explained. Meanwhile on the field, Anthony Wen flew the highest kite! Jayden played happily with his dart that's like a vertical slingshot, all you need to do is load the dart, let go and relax as you watch it fly a million miles into the clouds, I'm not sure who's went further, Anthony Wen's kite, or Jayden's dart. I think everyone including me had a wonderful time outside! Wait a minute... where's Jayden's dart!?

Teacher comment:  Nice finishing sentence Daniel!  You have great use of punctuation too.

Bill's Zoo Blog

Yay! Its Monday, that means its the zoo trip!
First we went on the bus, it
took about 45 minutes to get to Auckland Zoo. When we arrived, we had to line up in our groups. The group I was in had Gus, Jayden, Danika, Chloe, Ms Parkins and myself. First we went to see the giraffes. Did you know that giraffes have two hearts! Wow! I didn't know that! Then we went to see the other animals such as the lion. It looked like they could easily jump over the wall and attack us. My favourite part at the zoo was the sea lions because it was the biggest sea animal we could get close up to.

I like your facts Bill!  Animals don't have capitals - unless it is their name you are using.  Mrs Simpson

Going to Auckland zoo by Eleisha

Today the seniors went to the zoo. When all the buses arrived we went in the zoo. When we got there we had Sue talk to us about what we have to do first (zoo keeper).  It was a cool  experience to go to Auckland zoo because I have only gone to the zoo a couple of times but that was ages ago! First my group had a photo, then we looked at the giraffes I was first with the camera. Some zebras were with the giraffes. The giraffes were as tall as the Sky tower.

Peer Assesment: nice recount! I like your story
it looks like you had a fun time but I would like to see a simile.
